AHSOR 25th anniversary
Aboriginal Head Start On-Reserve (AHSOR) is a program run by the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) that supports early childhood learning and development for First Nations children from birth to age six and their families. The program’s goal is to empower First Nations communities to design and deliver activities that meet their unique needs and priorities.
To celebrate AHSOR’s 25th anniversary, FNHA approached me to create a short film documenting the powerful stories of educators who have been part of the program—some having experienced it both as young children and now as educators themselves. Along with our project coordinator and my second shooter, I traveled to Boothroyd, Kispiox, Nanoose, and Kitasoo First Nations to interview participants and capture their experiences.
With a month of pre-production, a one-month filming window, and a three-week editing turnaround, I created this five-minute film, which debuted at the AHSOR 25th Anniversary Gala. There, educators and FNHA employees gathered to celebrate this milestone.
I was honoured to be chosen for this project and to connect with the incredible people who are playing a vital role in cultural revitalization and helping young children build a foundation for success and healthy living.
